Facebook Fight! Pioneer Square edition

The picture that started it all . . .

Update: Now with comments from Councilmember Tim Burgess.

I offered Publicola in on the ground floor of my new blog concept: Facebook Fight! The idea is to publish a regular feature on the blog documenting interesting discussions, arguments, and snark that go on in the comments of Facebook. They never took me up on it. Oh well, I guess I’ll work on the trademark and sell it to them later.

But here it is. Behold the first edition of Facebook Fight! (TM)

  • Charlie Cunniff and Aaron Pickus like this.
    • Chuck Wolfe ‎Knute Berger and Pioneer Square–nothing more Seattle than that…

    • Peter Steinbrueck Hey Chuck, fess up– weren’t you on the” infamous list” of those advocating for the crushing heights in the name of dense-ity? There are other forms of dense neighborhooods that still preserve character and scale, as I know you know well.

    • Chuck Wolfe An apt scolding, not unlike another I received on Sunday. Perhaps Jon Scholes and Katherine Fountain Mackinnon will rescue me…

    • Peter Steinbrueck Chuck, we will have to find a suitable form of harsh punishment for you during your repentance!

    • Knute Berger We could have added height to Pioneer Square by simply lowering the streets and sidewalks to their original level!

    • Chuck Wolfe I’d sign that letter!

    • Jon Scholes I back you up Chuck. Indeed you did sign onto a letter with 40 plus Pioneer Square and Chinatown/ID residents, small business owners, retailers, property owners and others who want more people living in PS so the vacant storefronts in historic buildings (like the one centered in this photo) can be filled with thriving businesses.

    • Chuck Wolfe And now, as indicated, I want to sign the Knute Berger letter lowering the streets and sidewalks. Not sure about parking but there’s none left anyway 🙂

    • Roger Valdez Love it! Seattle history unfolds on my Facebook page.

    • Jon Scholes What’s ironic here is that if the higher “crushing” heights had been approved AND we lowered the sidewalks, we’d still be well under the 240 foot height limit that was supported by the City Council and the Preservation Board for the North Lot project located within the historic district.
